Christopher Baird is a corporate partner in the DLA Piper London office and has a significant number of years’ experience in M&A and corporate transactional work. His experience includes a broad range of share and business acquisitions and disposals, private equity work, cross-border transactions, joint ventures and group reorganisations. Chris has acted for corporates, private equity houses, multi-national organisations and management teams in a broad range of sectors including energy, mining, consumer goods, media and technology.

Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohammed is a champion of industrialization, with a drive to promote local enterprises to curb unemployment in Kenya.
As a private sector leader, CS Mohammed was a pioneer for the financial services sector of Africa, holding multiple leadership positions in banking across Africa. He was previously Chief Administrative Officer of Barclays Africa and before this, the Managing Director of Barclays Bank in East and West Africa. CS Mohammed also had a distinguished career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in London where he trained as a Chartered Accountant.
CS Adan Mohammed is an MBA graduate of Harvard Business School and holds a First Class Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi.
Prior to joining Acumen in June 2014, Ashley Speyer worked at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York where she conducted research on Cuba’s energy landscape and Brazil’s foreign policy strategy in Africa. Her passion for international development and social entrepreneurship began during her experiences in East Africa where she learned the importance of local ownership in development efforts. In 2007, while in high school, she partnered with a women’s cooperative and created a non-profit organization to build a school in Arusha, Tanzania. During college, Ashley spent time in Uganda studying international development and the impact of decentralization on citizen participation. She volunteered at a local human rights organization and wrote her undergraduate thesis on transnational advocacy networks and their role in enforcing international norms. Ashley received her B.A. in Sociology from Colorado College.
Lead partner, KPMG’s IDAS in Africa
Julio Garrido-Mirapeix, who is a Spanish national, has spent 27 years overseas working in development issues, of which the last 19 in Africa, 13 years with KPMG. He founded and currently serves as lead partner in KPMG’s IDAS in Africa. Relevant working experience with international agencies, KPMG and other private sector companies as Managing Partner, Head of Unit, Programme Manager, Team Leader & Consultant in over 40 Latin American, Caribbean, African and Asian countries
He joined KPMG in March 2003 and became a Partner in September 2005, being responsible for the consolidation of the Advisory unit of KPMG Mozambique, which he grew from 6 to 65 professionals. He founded in 2007 the first Business Unit of KPMG in the Africa Region, IDAS, with HQs in Nairobi, Kenya, and regional offices in Accra and Harare, integrated currently by a team of 6 partners, 18 Directors and + 160 highly qualified professionals based in several African countries and the UK.
Julio has provided strategic and policy advice at the highest level. He has built up a broad experience in the management of US$ multi-million, large and complex programmes, in particular involving Global, Africa-wide, region and country-specific Challenge Funds, with particular emphasis on agroindustry, financial innovation, renewable energy, resilience and adaptation to climate change.
Investment Specialist,USAID East Africa Trade and Investment Hub
Liz Muange is an Investment Specialist at the USAID East Africa Trade and Investment Hub, where she manages projects aimed at increasing investment in companies operating in East Africa, Ethiopia, Madagascar and Mauritius partnering with the investors, private sector associations and government. She previously worked at Lattice Consulting, African Guarantee Fund and Deloitte. Liz is a Certified Public Accountant and a Bcom (Hons) from University of Nairobi and MA (Distinction) degree holder from Catholic University Milan, Italy. She has previously worked in various advisory and financial institutions such as Lattice Consulting, African Guarantee Fund and Deloitte. Liz has more than 10 years’ experience in the areas of corporate finance, project finance, risk management and project management for investment related development projects. She has worked in various countries in Africa and Europe.
